Under the direction of the Director of Clinical Physics, this position is responsible for treatment accessory and device design and fabrication, instrument making, machining, and tool & die activities required for use in the development of applications and delivery of radiation therapy at UFPTI, and other outside entities on a contractual basis, and for design and fabrication of parts/components used for repair and maintenance of major radiation therapy equipment. This position also provides assistance to the clinical physicists in their routine work.
Esstential Functions:
Performs benchwork in the manufacture and modification of complex instruments, devices, parts and other apparatus for treatment-related, experimental, equipment, and research applications within precision tolerance following blueprints, rough drafts, and verbal instructions.
By working with appropriate individuals to understand the requirements of assigned jobs, develops specifications and draws or sketches products to be made based on conceptual ideas. Requires the ability to understand complex scientific problems, visualize oral and written concepts to produce prototypes and working patient care devices that would otherwise be cost prohibitive or do not yet exist.
Crafts precision tools and dies used to cut, shape and form metal, wood, plastics, ceramics, and exotic alloys; produces jigs and fixtures to hold materials while they are bored, stamped or drilled; makes molds for diecasting and for molding plastics, ceramics, and composite materials.
Machines and assembles a variety of component parts in repairing or modifying complex mechanical equipment; repairs a variety of devices, tools, and other equipment.
Performs preventive maintenance and repair of machine shop equipment. Evaluates and specifies new equipment as well as consumable purchases for the machine shop, employing an intricate knowledge of the use and operation of a diverse and highly specialized array of equipment.
Fabricates and delivers shielding blocks, apertures, compensators and templates without error in design. |
