Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs specimen analysis of all Chemistry, Hematology and Immunology specimens as directed. Performs analysis of blood samples in an efficient, accurate manner
Records results on appropriate worksheet and computer system and performs file maintenance.
Processes specimens for send-out testing.
Maintains an adequate supply of reagents and consumables and maintains appropriate records.
Prepares smear and performs differential on peripheral blood smear.
Performs microscopic examination of urinary sediment as ordered. Performs other laboratory tests as ordered.
Prepares reagents, stains and other chemical solutions.
Verifies all critical results and documents with accurate follow-up.
Processes specimens for Reference Laboratory testing. Performs proficiency testing quarterly.
Assays and analyzes quality control specimens to ensure acceptable patient results.
Records results of quality controls daily. Plots results of control runs. Follows defined protocol for investigating out-of-control runs and implements necessary remedial action.
Records daily temperature and humidity readings.
Performs daily, weekly, and monthly instrument maintenance as indicated.
Records proper lot numbers of all controls, calibrator, and reagents.
Identifies troubleshooting procedures and calls technical services as needed.
Implements and complies with safety and quality assurance standards. Complies with regulatory agency standards. Adheres to all OSHA compliance laws and Universal Precaution procedures. Properly disposes of hazardous materials.
Maintains laboratory records and manuals to assure compliance for CLIA/ COLA/ state/ federal licensing and inspections.
Reports abnormal values to physician immediately. Notifies patients of laboratory results per physician’s request.
Accurately charges the encounter forms for laboratory work performed. Logs in and reviews reference laboratory results.
Maintains a clean working environment and restocks the laboratory area as needed.
Performs phlebotomy and sample collection procedures as needed.
Assists in implementing OSHA regulations, record keeping and inventory control.
Other duties may be assigned.
Other Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of government and regulatory policies. Knowledge of laboratory guidelines and practices. Knowledge of medical terminology, criminal medicine, hematology and oncology.
Displays excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to operate designated laboratory equipment and other office equipment as specified. Basic Computer skills. Ability to assist with lifting and guiding patients

Education and/or Experience:
Associate’s degree in medical technology or appropriate biological/chemical/medical science. Minimum three to seven (3-7) years experience. Successful completion of a structured clinical program internship and current state licensure.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
AMT or Equivalent certification required, ASCP preferred.
